Laser acupuncture is a new method of stimulation. low-energy laser beams are used in place of acupuncture needles to influence the flow of current at the acupuncture points. Laser acupuncture is the preferred procedure for treatment of painful conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, and chronic headache in children outside of conventional medicine . Most practitioners of laser acupuncture have knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine, and a clear understanding of how various acupuncture points function, in order to achieve the desired results.

The practitioner aims a beam of light from a laser onto the desired point, the way acupuncture needles do. The red laser beam is visible, and usually heats up the acupuncture point. During the laser procedure, a practitioner may hold the beam steadily on an acupuncture point for a period that can range from ten seconds to a maximum of two minutes. The duration of the beam usually depends on the amount of tissue the laser must penetrate, and the power the acupuncturist needs to apply on a point. Sometimes, a practitioner may also have to use invisible infrared lasers to accomplish his or her outcome.

Laser acupuncture is used for an anesthetic effect and the stimulation of acupuncture points in a therapeutic program. The procedure has some advantages over the traditional needle method. Patients who are usually afraid of needles, such as children are great candidates for laser acupuncture. Lasers are noninvasive and an aseptic procedure, significantly reducing the pain and recovery time associated with invasive treatments. Laser acupuncture can treat the same range of disorders as needle acupuncture.

Laser therapy reduces patient trauma, and is a good choice for treating conditions where the risk of cross infection is high. One disadvantage is the effectiveness of this treatment is limited to peripheral points. The points on a patient’s hands, feet, and ears often do respond to laser acupuncture. Unfortunately, deeper abdominal points do not usually benefit from the treatment, as most of the laser beams used cannot penetrate beyond 0.19 inches (5 mm). If you would like to try laser acupuncture, try getting in touch with a traditional acupuncture practitioner and ask them to refer a laser practitioner for you.

What most people who oppose acupuncture don’t understand is that it is NOT about curing anything. It is about facilitating certain things within the body so it can function normally and heal itself. The body wants to be healthy and will work towards that goal if given the proper treatment and care. Acupuncture is very effective in this process. We are ever so much more than just flesh and bones and veins .Acupuncture can often help improve female fertility rates, and with IVF procedures often times you are able to increase positive results with fewer treatments.

Studies into acupuncture and IVF treatment has had the most research done. IVF success rates of 40-42% with acupuncture compared to 28% without in one of the most recent studies with 273 participants.

Acupuncture alone can also improve fertility rates. One study that specifically compared women with endocrine dysfunctional infertility: one group was put on the drug clomiphene (Clomid) and the other was treated with acupuncture. The result was 45% pregnancy rate in the Clomid group, and 65% in the acupuncture group.

In another study acupuncture showed evidence of normalizing dysfunction of the hypothalamuspituitary-ovarian axis, and treat endocrine dysfunctional infertility. The Acupuncturist will take a complete health history and talk with you about the issues involved with your infertility. They will speak to you about what steps you have taken and are currently taking with regards to fertility treatments. Based on this information the Acupuncturist will assess your particular case and devise a treatment plan. Plans typically include, but are not limited to, Acupuncture, Nutrition, and Herbal medicine.

Acupuncture sessions usually last anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows access to the arms and legs from the elbow and knees down, and that allows access to the abdomen.

In America, acupuncturists use pre-sterilized, disposable needles. Unlike syringes, they are not hollow because they are not used to inject substances into the body. Most are made of stainless steel, but specialty needles can be found that have copper handles, or are made of gold, silver, even cobalt. Technology allows them to be made very thin, sharp and somewhat flexible, and they usually slide in painlessly. They come in a wide variety of lengths and gauges. The majority are in little tubes, or pipettes, and this is helpful in protecting and inserting them.

Most acupuncturists in the United States use pre-sterilized, one-time use needles. In most of the US, state law requires acupuncture needles to be sterile, single-use disposables, used once and then disposed of as medical waste.

Autoclaving (re-sterilizing) such thin instruments like acupuncture needles is often difficult and it has been reported to weaken the shaft of the needle. Acupuncture needles often penetrate the dermis into the muscle layer. Bleeding can potentially occur even when the skin layer is not fully penetrated.

Even if the did not penetrate the skin layer the second the needle comes into contact with the skin it is no longer sterile. This is true of any sterile device.

What do acupuncture needles contain? Acupuncture needles do not contain anything. Modern disposable needles are typically made of stainless steel and discarded after use. Some needles are made from gold and silver, but these are used infrequently.

Treatment is obtained via the correct use of acupuncture points and needle stimulation techniques. The needles are put into certain nerve pathways that are believed to be causing the problem you’re having. There’s schooling for this and charts that tell you which pathways affect what. The theory is that doing so activates and opens up these pathways, so that the signals can travel better in the nerves and the problem will be gone, or at least be improved.

Are the acupuncture needles like those used to give shots or draw blood?

No. Acupuncture needles are hair-thin, smooth and solid hypodermic needles are thicker, hollow and have cutting edges.

Acupuncture is on of many treatments in the category of complimentary and alternative medicine or CAM. Acupuncture is an ancient practice that has been used in China and other parts of Asia for thousands of years. Acupuncture is being used for a variety of ailments and its efficacy is being studied in them as well. It is used for everything from pain to nausea to cancer and even weight loss.

Acupuncture is based on qi and yin yang. It’s main idea is that the bodies energy can be unbalanced and this is what causes disease etc. It is being used in the United States by an estimated 3.1 million people, and is on the rise.

There are not many side effects to acupuncture if it is done properly by a licensed professional practitioner. It is imperative that sterile needles are used to ensure that infection does not occur.

Always be sure that you are seeing a licensed practitioner in acupuncture. Your practitioner will do a complete health history at your first visit and discuss the reasons you are seeking out treatments. You can also discuss cost, and how many treatments you will need at this time.

Within conventional medicine, there is no explanation for how acupuncture works. Some of the prevalent hypotheses include: counter-irritation, endorphin release, gate theory, and placebo.

The Chinese medicine hypothesis behind acupuncture working is based on the dynamic balance of yin and yang. Imbalance equals illness, while balance equals health. All negative and positive health symptoms experienced in life are the work outcome of the balanced, or imbalanced, yin-yang energies.

In effect, acupuncture insertions are thought to be like turning Yin and Yang switches on or off throughout the body to illicit a net physiological change.

When acupuncture is used for weight loss, it is usually targeting different areas where body weight is effected. Things like lack of exercise, poor nutrition, overeating, slower metabolism and hormone imbalance all contribute to weight gain and obesity.

Some research has shown that acupuncture increased ghrelin, a hunger hormone and decreased leptin a hormone involved in metabolism and the storage of body fat.

Acupuncture for weight loss uses points in the ear that revolve around the above mentioned areas. A hunger point, stomach point and endocrine point are used to decrease the energy in these meridians and stimulate neurotransmitters and hormones.

If you decide to use acupuncture for weight loss be sure to choose a licensed professional. Be sure to listen to the practitioner and complete the full treatment to realize its full benefit. Also be aware that the trend of “ear stapling” is based on acupuncture but is not as precise and puts you at risk for infection.

It may be advantageous for many people to learn hypnosis, it can be a good idea because it has many benefits including helping with weight loss, bringing change within you and even improving your golf and other sports activities! What hypnosis does is draw from what you already have in you, it cannot be used to force someone to do something they would not otherwise do, as is commonly believed, but it does have many benefits and it does indeed work, even though it can work better on some people than others.

With hypnosis, you release the full potential of your mind, and you use your inner capabilities to attract more positive energy. The power of hypnosis lies within the mind’s ability to take on information at a subconscious level, and to put that information to use when you need it.

Learning hypnosis is relatively easy to do, and can be learned online or with the use of programs on DVD and CD. Most commonly, people learn hypnosis with the help of an experienced hypnotherapist who can train you to be able to put yourself in and out of this highly aware, trance-like state at will.

Many people have the wrong notions about hypnosis, and much of this is the fault of the movies and television for the most part, they have taken hypnosis to extremes that just are not possible. Remember I mentioned before that you cannot make someone to do something they would not ordinarily do just because they are in a hypnotic state of mind? This important fact is very often forgotten in the name of artistic license in movies!

Hypnosis is in fact recognized by both the American Psychological Association and the American Medical Association. There are self hypnosis techniques that can help you to manage pain like menstrual cramps, migraine headaches and more. In addition, self hypnosis can help you along the way in your weight loss program, to stop smoking and other “bad” habits. This can all be done by using the power of suggestion.

If you decide to learn self hypnosis, you should start by looking for a reputable provider, by that I mean you should seek a professional. Check out what these people have to offer, read everything you can about their courses, subscribe to their email lists, and then you are in a much stronger position to make a more informed choice when deciding on which course to buy.

Learning hypnosis is a good idea because it can help you to change something about yourself that you do not like. Perhaps it is the weight, or just some bad habit like smoking or other tobacco addiction. Whatever the case, when you use hypnosis to conquer these things about yourself that you do not like, you end up a happier person in the end, which can lead to an overall healthier and longer life. Just do not forget to thoroughly check out the programs you are interested in before you buy.

Hypnotherapy can be used to achieve many things, as well as to modify behavior, develop decisive and healthy behaviours, secure creative insight and new-found solutions to life problems, to visualize and accomplish topmost performance in your chosen sport or area, and to switch stress and anxiety with a feel of rest and renewed energy and persistence. Hypnotherapy is besides an outstanding way to get a deeper understanding and feel of balance involving the rational, emotional, and spiritual parts of yourself.

Some individuals desire that someone else might magically effect their life different right away. However, the genuine process of hypnotherapy is much more empowering than that. Once you tap into and harness your own inner wherewithal, you realize with the purpose of you are a powerful person who can add up to all kinds of things turn out for yourself – without having to rely on someone else to magically repair things for you. I am positive that you can learn to produce your own magic.

Hypnotherapy is a group of techniques used to help a client obtain access to the unconscious mind. Having increased access to normally unconscious wherewithal allows you to obtain new-found perspectives, allow a deeper understanding of your own behaviour and motivation, and profit increased mastery and control in your life.

The hypnotist guides you into a relaxed state by supporting you to focus and relax. It is, however, up to you to allow the hypnosis to occur. While your conscious mind becomes highly listening carefully and/or profoundly relaxed with hypnosis, its as if a entry to your unconscious mind opens, enabling you to receive suggestions in accordance with your goals. It is through this phase which affirmative statements, affirmations, and visualizations are specified by the hypnotherapist. Thereafter, your unconscious and conscious can perform concurrently to bring around desired modification.

During a session about 90% of clients are able to hear and consciously remember a large amount of the session. This is standard since hypnosis is not sleep and it is not being unconscious. When you are hypnotized, you are really more aware and not less aware. You are more aware of your body, more aware of your breathing, more aware of outside sounds and smells, and your recall is much sharper. That is why hypnosis works so well. Your wanting and your motivation to transform, however, are vital to the good results of your hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis is a complete state of material, mental and emotional rest. Hypnosis opens the entry to the sub-conscious mind. Hypnotherapy is the process of imprinting your unconscious mind with suggestions for better lifestyle changes. During hypnotherapy, your mind is more wide open to suggestions and learning, so you can vary behavior, attitudes or habits more briskly. Hypnotherapy is a safe, controlled methodology to self-enhancement and is often a very enjoyable and relaxing experience.

Hypnosis is a deep state of rest. If you’ve tried contemplation or yoga, you might have practiced something like it, as these can induce a mild hypnosis. Hypnotherapy is the process which takes you into this relaxed state and combines it with therapy to help you let go of downbeat feelings and feelings, and interchange them with encouraging ones. There are two types of hypnotherapy: interactive, where the client and therapist retain a continual dialogue; and direct suggestion, where the therapist operates from a script used for a particular objective such as weight loss or giving up smoking. Interactive hypnotherapy tends to exhibit quicker, more dramatic results.

The therapist uses a form of vocabulary which encourages the mind to relax, giving you access to your unconscious and allowing you to put forward things to it. But the vital feature is that it is you who allows your mind to enter into this state; a hypnotherapist can neither induce it nor keep you in a state of hypnosis contrary to your will. Going into hypnosis relies on your interest and compliance to be guided into this another state of consciousness.

Hypnotherapy is completely safe, non-invasive and a thoroughly natural state. Often It can effectively resolve many challenges, in a a small number of sessions.

When individuals think of hypnosis and hypnotherapy they by and large think of weight loss and stop smoking. Some other things which hypnosis is beneficial with are: sleeplessness, panic and anxiety, depression, fears and phobias, compulsions and obsessions, alcoholism and drug dependency, chronic pain, improving recall and study habits, increasing creativity, increasing sports achievement, building confidence, becoming a calm public spokesperson, improving sales performance, overcoming stage fright, pain of child birth, pain, anxiety and gagging brought on by dental procedures, visualization for wellbeing problems, learning self-hypnosis, fingernail biting, tinnitus, and attention deficit disorder (ADD).

Hypnotherapy has long been used to help people with a variety of issues that plague their personal lives. However, many individuals do not know the actual art that this form of therapy entails.

Myths rise about how those who undergo any form of hypnosis can be controlled and will never be the same once its over. The fact is, it can be used as a great tool for many mental health therapists to use to aid individuals combat issues that are present in their everyday lives.

In order to overcome the stereotypes that are associated with this art, people should read and further investigate what this form of therapy is really all about and exactly how it works.

Hypnotherapy has two ways in which it functions. One type of therapy is suggestion therapy. With this, a person is given suggestions while they are in a hypnotic trance. In this trance, a person is more focused and is more open to receiving suggestions that may help them to overcome certain negative behaviors that they are exhibiting.

Believe it or not, this is also a great way to help those who are dealing with chronic pain. Another form of this therapy that can be used is called analysis. With analysis hypnotherapy, the relaxation state is used to trigger the causes of certain disorders or symptoms.

For example, if a person had a traumatic past, then this type of clinical hypnotherapy may help them to discover any suppressed memories. Once they are out in the open, a person can then deal with their issues more effectively.

The art of hypnotherapy is not for everyone. Many hypnotists claim that they can hypnotize anyone. Those who state this are the ones who should not be trusted.

Hypnotism is a form of therapy that certain people will not benefit from. Those who are addicted to drugs or alcohol, have a mental illness that is associated with delusions and who are dead set against even trying this form of therapy should not be using hypnotherapy as a solution to their problems.

Hypnotherapy is an excellent way for people to overcome various life issues. No longer does a person have to quit smoking cold turkey style or lose weight with a fad diet. It is a great way to help individuals who know that this is a true medical form of therapy and believe in its powers.

Those who do not believe in its abilities will not respond well and in essence, will waste their time and money by trying to undergo hypnotism. This is not a fad; one will find the results to be rather amazing.

A Guide to Trance Land
By Bill O’Hanlon
W.W. Norton, 106 pages, $18.50

This slim volume is a clear-cut guide to the hypnotically permissive manner of encouraging clients to uncover their own solutions.

O’Hanlon distinguishes this solution-oriented hypnotherapy from what he calls the traditional approach with its emphasis on treating the “causes” of problems and the outside-in focus of the hypnotherapist telling the client what to do to overcome her pathology.

“Ericksonian or solution-oriented hypnosis holds no such assumption of pathology, problem, damage, or deficit. Instead, we are oriented to people’s abilities and resources. Therefore, we use the hypnotic process to discover and connect to [to the person's inner] resources.”

This “permissive” approach is in direct contrast to the old way of conducting a session of hypnotherapy. Instead of speaking of “shoulds” and “musts” the hypnotist speaks of “perhaps” and “maybes”. The idea is both to meet the client where he or she is and to allow solutions to their problems to arise from within them.

Despite the author’s demarcation of his approach as being radically different to traditional hypnotherapy in practice surely most of us incorporate something of both methods?

Just the other day, for instance, when a Christian client spoke of herself as being immature, I said perhaps that’s true but she is moving forward and as St Paul said. “When I was a child…” and continued with the Biblical quote that was meaningful and relevant to her. Meeting the client where she is now.

O’Hanlon rightly warns (in regard to using the client’s vocabulary) “it is important to be careful here and not come across as mocking or disrespectful…”

I certainly don’t want to be “mocking or disrespectful” about this Guide but here are four items that raised my eyebrows:

1. I find the cover, with its big dog looking down at a cat, puzzling for a book about human hypnosis.

2. On almost every page there is a rubber-stamp type black and white image of an animal or bird. Contrary to the author’s assertion that such designs make the book easier to read and memorable I find these images distracting. At first glance, the book appears to be a book about pets or for children. It is neither.

3. Some of the suggested “therapeutic” behaviors are downright comical. For example, what would you think about a hypnotherapist who bounces around, speaking into your left ear while emphasizing “you can make those changes you really want to make.”

4. What have become known as NLP [Neuro-Linguistic Programming] techniques are, in my opinion, manipulative and dishonest. This one, from page 31, is both. And funny:

“The hypnotist sometimes mirrors the person’s posture or movements as a way of joining and connecting. For example, when a person crosses and uncrosses his legs, the hypnotist also crosses and uncrosses her legs. Another way to match body behavior is to vary some part of your behavior when the person changes his body behavior. That is, every time he blinks, you nod.”

Despite such hilarious portions of the book, the main thrust provides invaluable instruction for hypnotherapists – particularly those hitherto inclined to bark orders at their clients.

To this end, Bill O’Hanlon provides many specific examples of what to say and how to say it. Much of this is derived from the genius of the late Milton Erickson whose (at that time) unorthodox methods of hypnotherapy have become dogma for some devotees.

Unfortunately, you can’t package genius. How Erickson dealt with people arose from his unique talents. We can be inspired by him, we can imitate his respectful approach but we stifle the very essence of his permissive attitude when we seek to encapsulate his methods into rigid rules.

Nevertheless, the synthesis of the Ericksonian approach that O’Hanlon details at the end of the book is masterful.

Hypnotherapists new to the field and those previously stuck in the “traditional” mode will find these instructions enlightening. Especially the chapter, “Bad Trance/ Good Trance” with its table of “Symptomatic Trance vs. Healing Trance.”

Today, we will cover together the topic of hypnotherapy in this short article. My purpose is to make an overall overview of this technique without going to much into the technique in itself.

First, thing first, what is hypnosis? To be gentle, hypnosis is a relative state of relaxed awareness. What the specialist said it that hypnosis mix the concept of having a relaxed mind and in the same time having a straight focused attention on a specific task. The definition is not easy some people say that you are asleep and others say that you are disconnected and unconscious. However, researchers have identified a specific state of mind when you are fully open to suggestions or alpha state. During the session, you are alert and more sensitive to your environment.

The second question you may have about hypnotherapy and hypnosis is: is it dangerous? Yes, this is an important question to ask. This is a wrong question. The real question should is your hypnotist serious? Think of it a minute. If you are going to do a hypnotherapy then you must select a serious and a qualified hypnotist. You can ask and seek for a practitioner with a professional registration. This is the minimum to evaluate at the very beginning.

If you love TV then you should be a little afraid about a hypnotherapy session because you may believe that hypnosis can work against you and may push you doing anything against your will, right? That’s true and not true. First on TV, this is a spectacle and the volunteers are most of the time very excited and over fully open to do the job. They are more open to suggestions. That’s the first point to mention. But the key point you have to remember is that your body, your mind and your awareness work for you. It’s nearly impossible to make you do something against your will, your value and your belief. This is the basic. Frankly, what can do a hypnotherapist if you do not enter voluntary in his office for a session? You have the control not him.

That’s driving us to an important fact to know: when people try to fake you and to diminish you, be aware that they are trying to manipulate you and to destroy your values, and your believe. You cannot hypnotize someone if they have “strong” values and believe. Be smart.
